1. About these terms

These terms apply to the use of the website Venice Water Inform at venizeanwaterinform.online (“the site”), in both its English and its Italian edition. The site is run by its operator (“we”, “us”), who can be reached at info@venizeanwaterinform.online. By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.

How we handle personal data is explained separately in the privacy policy and the cookie policy.

2. What the site is for

The site offers general information for visitors about the canals, bridges, lagoon, tides and islands of Venice and about moving around the city by water. It is non-commercial. We sell nothing, take no reservations and do not act as a travel agent, tour operator or intermediary of any kind. No contract for travel, transport or any other service is concluded through the site.

3. No guarantee of accuracy or currency

We research our pages carefully and correct errors as soon as we learn about them. Even so, we cannot guarantee that every piece of information is complete, correct and up to date at the moment you read it. Venice changes all the time: water-bus lines and landing stages are rearranged, buildings close for restoration, rules for visitors are revised. Many figures on the site are rounded, because the sources themselves disagree.

4. Always check official sources

Before you travel or act on anything you read here, and especially before relying on routes, timetables, opening times, access rules, tide forecasts or safety warnings, check the current official information of the City of Venice, the public transport operator or the venue concerned. Where official information and this site differ, the official information prevails.

5. No professional advice

The content of the site is not travel, legal, safety, medical or any other professional advice, and it does not replace such advice. In particular, what we write about tides, acqua alta, boats and the lagoon is general background, not navigation or safety instructions. On the water and in the streets, follow the instructions of the authorities, of boat crews and of the staff on site. The schematic lagoon chart is not to scale and must not be used for navigation.

6. Intellectual property

• Texts and maps. The texts, the schematic maps and drawings, the page design and the selection and arrangement of the content are protected by copyright and belong to the operator of the site, unless stated otherwise.
• Photographs. The photographs are the work of their authors and are used under the open licences, or as public domain works, listed on the image credits page. Those licences, not these terms, govern any reuse of the photographs. If you want to reuse one, follow the licence linked next to it and credit its author, not us.
• Typefaces. The fonts Cormorant Garamond and Nunito Sans are used under the SIL Open Font License, as set out on the image credits page.
• Names. Names of places, museums, churches, festivals and public institutions are mentioned for information only. Mentioning them does not imply any connection with us or any endorsement by them.

7. What you may do with our content

You may, without asking us:

• read, print and save pages for your own personal, non-commercial use, for example to take with you on a trip;
• quote short passages, provided the quotation is accurate and clearly marked as such, credits “Venice Water Inform” and links to the page it comes from;
• link to any page of the site.

Without our prior written permission, which you can ask for by email, you may not:

• reproduce whole pages or substantial parts of them, in print or online;
• use our texts or maps for commercial purposes, for example in guidebooks, apps, paid tours or advertising;
• present our content as your own, or display our pages inside a frame on another website;
• copy or extract content systematically with automated tools, beyond what search engines need in order to index the site.

8. Links to other websites

The site links to official sources and, on the image credits page, to Wikimedia Commons and to licence texts. We check these links when we add them, but we have no control over the websites they lead to and are not responsible for their content, their availability or the way they handle data. A link is not an endorsement. If a link no longer works or leads somewhere unexpected, please tell us.

9. Availability of the site

We may change, interrupt or discontinue the site or any part of it at any time and without notice. We do not guarantee that the site will always be available, or that it will work without errors or interruptions.

10. Limitation of liability

The site is provided as it is, for general information only. To the extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from the use of the site, from the temporary unavailability of the site, or from reliance on its content.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under the applicable law, in particular liability for intent or gross negligence, or for injury to life, body or health. Mandatory rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country remain unaffected.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when the site gains new features or when the law changes. The version published on this page applies from the date shown at the top.

12. Severability

If any provision of these terms is or becomes invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in force. The invalid provision is to be replaced by a valid one that comes as close as possible to its purpose.
